As I mentioned previously, paid subscribers get to read my book in progress as I write it. Yes, this is an early draft, so I welcome your feedback as long as it’s constructive.
Last time, I shared the introduction. Now let’s move on to Chapter One:
Why It’s Hard to Write a Book
Or: Why You’re Normal if You’ve Tried and Gotten Stuck
According to common internet lore, 97% of people who start writing a book don’t finish it. Although this statistic appears to be more anecdotal than hard data, it reflects the fact that writing a book is difficult, and the majority of those who start writing one don’t complete it.
Often, aspiring authors begin with great gusto and enthusiasm, and the words pour out of them. Then, when the flow inevitably stops, doubt sets in, and the brain finds new, shiny activities to pursue.
“I’ll get back to it later,” you tell yourself. “I need more time/research/flow.”
How many of us have done that with our spiritual practices as well?
When I first got on the Crooked Path, as some call it, I found myself carrying some of the old mindsets from my previous one (Catholicism). The biggest question I had was, “Am I doing this right? How do I know?”
These are questions that first-time authors have as well. You may be coming from the structure of the writing you need to do for your job or the limits of social media, which give you parameters to follow.
Books are a whole different story, if you’ll pardon the pun.
By now, you may be cringing, and I promise I’m not here to call you out. You likely picked up this book because you’re looking for something different, a magic sequence that will help you finally finish that darn book…
